I started my career many moons ago working as a technical writer for a software company. I knew nothing about engineering or software, but what I did know how to do was research and write (liberal arts education for the win!). I ended up writing highly technical reference material for civil engineering, architecture, and design visualization software. Some of the software applications were so complex that the reference guides were 800 pages long! Later, I also started writing marketing and training materials for the software products and attending trade shows to help demonstrate how the software works.
After that first job, my career took me to several other companies where I learned how to write about telecommunications equipment, audio/visual equipment, metallurgy, government contracting, IT software, NASA lab procedures, and biotechnology. I love learning about new fields and concepts and writing about them. My business writing skills include crafting technical documentation, online help, websites (WordPress design plus content development), B2B marketing materials, white papers, and more.
In addition, I branched out into writing magazine articles. I enjoy working with trade magazines that allow me to use the skills I’ve learned throughout my business writing career. I also like writing articles about topics I enjoy, such as outdoor recreation, conservation, pets, history, and writing.
