Q: What genres do you narrate?
A: I will narrate almost anything except erotica.
Q: Do you work with self-published authors?
A: Absolutely! I love working with indies! I am a self-published author too so I understand how much work it is to write and publish your own book. I also understand the value of offering an audiobook to your fans.
Q: How can I be sure you’ll deliver high-quality audio files?
A: I am pretty obsessive about quality. I start with high-quality recording equipment to ensure the audiobook sounds great right from the start, then I carefully master the files to remove all background noises and anything that shouldn’t be there. I also take my role as an audiobook narrator very seriously and I work closely with authors to ensure they’re happy with the final audiobook. You’ll have an opportunity to review the first chapter at the beginning of the project so you can hear exactly what the sound quality is like and what my narration will sound like. You can listen to some of my samples here.
Q: What kind of equipment do you use?
A: I use a Rode NT1A condenser microphone, a Shure pre-amp to give me finer control over recorded sound, and I use Audacity recording and editing software. I’m kind of a software nerd (I worked as a technical writer for many years) so I love playing around with Audacity to get the absolute best sound possible!
Q: Where do you record audiobooks?
A: I have a professional home studio where I record. It’s a small room in my home that I’ve lined with acoustic paneling to absorb sounds and ensure there are no weird echoes or miscellaneous noises in my recordings.
Q: How much does it cost to record an audiobook?
A: You can review all of my pricing information here. If you have any questions, or if you want to look into the royalty share option, just contact me!
Q: When do I have to pay for narration and production?
A: I require 1/3 of the total cost of the project before we begin. I will then bill you for an additional 1/3 halfway through the project, and the final 1/3 when I deliver the final files. If you are in a really big hurry with a short turnaround, we can discuss alternate options, such as 1/2 up front and 1/2 at the end of the project. If we agreed to a royalty share agreement, you won’t have to worry about payment ACX will take care of that.
Q: How can I find out if you’ll work with me for a royalty share?
A: Just contact me about your book and we can chat about your project. I’ll want to know about sales for your previous books, as well as your outreach to fans via social media and email lists. If you are a brand new author, it’s unlikely I will be able to work with you on a royalty share basis because I won’t be able to judge how well the book will sell.
Q; Will you work with me on a royalty share basis if I don’t want to go through ACX?
A: No, sorry, I only work on a royalty share basis through ACX because the entire process if automated there.
Q: Can you help me work with a distributor other than ACX?
A: Sure! There are many more options out there now for authors and publishers, such as Author’s Republic, Scribl, and many more. I’ll be happy to talk with you about other options for authors and publishers that give you more control over distribution as well as higher royalties.
